Liqui-Site’s Work on Killing Season Chicago Website Recognized by International Academy
(Nyack, NY) April 6, 2016 – Liqui-Site announced today that it has been nominated for a Webby Award in recognition of its work on the Killing Season Chicago website at www.killingseasonchicago.com.
The Webby Awards is an international award competition that focuses on honoring excellence on the Internet. Two awards are presented in each category, The Webby Award and The Webby People’s Voice Award. Members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) select the nominees for each category, and then choose the winner of The Webby Award. The Webby People’s Voice Award decision is made based on votes by the public. Voting runs through Thursday, April 21, 2016.
Killing Season Chicago is a data-driven art installation by Chicago-based artist, Krista Wortendyke that explores the relationship between climate and violence. With the help of grants from the Puffin Foundation and Columbia College, the website presents photographs from the 172 homicide sites in Chicago from Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2010. Nominated in the Web: NetArt category, Liqui-Site’s work is among the five best in the world.
The agency designed and implemented automated, swipe-able, horizontal scroll that mimics walking along the installation, the same way one would interact with it in-person. The website also features an interactive homicide map to pinpoint each location on Google maps, with the ability to view information about the deceased.
“I’m incredibly proud of the Liqui-Site team—especially Front End Developer, Cody Bailey-Wickins—for his dedication to pushing the boundaries of custom WordPress development and his meticulous execution of this project. Working collaboratively with Krista [Wortendyke] to bring her vision to life resulted in a project that could not have been more successful,” said Kelly Campbell, President and CRO of Liqui-Site.
